Podcast Recommendations

This is a list of podcasts that Tim recommends. They cover a range of political and cultural perspectives but share the same desire as The Wrong Podcast; to talk about cultural and political issues with respect, nuance and intelligence.  I recommend getting a “balanced diet” of perspectives. This serves to move us out of a temptation to isolate ourselves in an echo chamber. It also provides an opportunity to hear the best arguments the other side is making in order to sharpen our own critiques and not focus on straw-men.  These are listed in no particular order.

The Bulletin – A podcast for Christians seeking insights into the events, questions, and people that are shaping their world. Each episode will help Christians consider the intersection of faith, culture and spiritual formation.

Matter of Opinion – Voices from The New York Times Opinion section. There’s always a liberal and a conservative perspective presented about a current topic. They are not afraid to disagree and to top it off, they like each other.

The Dispatch – Three different podcasts from the writers at the Conservative but not Republican publication.  They always strive to describe people they disagree with in the best possible light while still sticking to their values.

The Bulwark – Charlie Sykes and guests discuss the latest news from inside Washington and around the world. No shouting, grandstanding, or sloganeering. Moderate (with a slightly left bent), conscientious, and civil.

60 Minutes – Long running, respected, television news magazine delivers their episodes in audio format.

Ink Stained Wretches – Eliana Johnson and Chris Stirewalt love the news business but they hate a lot of what’s happening to it these days. Using their decades of experience in print, digital and TV news they tell the story behind the stories, always on the lookout for bias, sloppy reporting and, well, just plain wretched journalism. Every week they help you to be a better, smarter news consumer.

On the Media – Analysis and reviews of how the media covers current news and issues.  Openly and unapologetically left leaning.

FiveThrityEight Politics – Commentary of recent political news with a emphasis on polling public opinion.  Left-leaning hosts but the analysis is almost always straight forward and objective.

Signposts with Russell Moore – Southern Baptist theologian with reflections on religion and culture. (had his job threatened because he wouldn’t endorse Donald Trump)
