Episode 49 – Red Roe Over

Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought that Roe vs. Wade was poorly decided and as a result would face a constant threat. That threat has materialized in Dobbs vs Jackson, a case the Supreme Court will soon hear that may overturn the legalization of abortion in all 50 States. The lovely Wendy joins me to discuss why Roe is under threat and why it will mean not much will change in the near future regarding abortion.
We also discuss the strange story of St Vitus’ Dance and social contagions.

Asserting that a fetus is a living human person (emphasis on the word “person”) is problematic. Additionally, individuating the fetus as a separate person is biologically problematic.

Philosophy “nerds” don’t emphasize the concept of person because they want to make personhood ambiguous. They want to clarify the term to understand our moral obligations better. Those who claim that our moral obligations are solely scoped by who counts as human and who does not are confused and base their morality on ambiguity to a much greater degree than those who are interested in personhood.
