Episode 61 – The Wrong Comparison

Our default historical analogy is almost always World War II, but the current situation feels a lot more like World War I. It’s worth figuring out what happened and why it happened beyond the mention of Franz Ferdinand. Plus recent revelations about sexual abuse within Christianity Today got me thinking about how we fix things when it isn’t our fault.
I reference A World Undone, The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill, and in particular this bonus episode about the investigation within Christianity Today.

I LOVE the position of Dalrymple on the history of sexual harassment and assault in his organization, especially as you relate it to slavery. I applaud you for recognizing that individual responsibility is not the same as communal responsibility. To say that differently, just because you aren’t individually responsible for the actions of your community in the past does not mean that you aren’t communally responsible for those actions. Great work there!
